Real investment fund allowedNEW DELHI: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has cleared an investment by HDFC's global real estate fund to invest up to Rs. 3,240 crore in the country. The Mauritius-registered India Offshore Real Estate Investments (IOREI), which is sponsored by HDFC, has been allowed to invest this amount, raised overseas, in units issued by HDFC's International Real Estate Fund (IREF). The decision to allow the global investments comes at a time when the real estate sector is facing a boom and property prices in most major metros are at an all-time high. As a result, global real estate players have also been showing considerable interest in the Indian market. The international scheme of the fund would be managed either by HDFC Venture Capital or a different entity from within the HDFC group. read more. Mauritius: PSSA Highlights Serious Shortcomings in CollegesThe Private Secondary Schools Authority (PSSA) has not spared some colleges in a report to the minister of Education, Dharam Gokhool, entitled Partnership for secondary education in Mauritius. The situation is far from perfect. The PSSA has noted a number of areas where these schools have failed totally in the way they are educating their students. The situation is even more worrying as such schools cater for more than half of all the secondary students. Not only are the infrastructures "sub-standard" in some schools but some managers are also described as "going beyond the limits of ethical behaviour", writes the PSSA. Likewise, some schools force certain students not to sit for Higher School Certificate or School Certificate exams to make sure they maintain a good success rate. Airbus sells 22 planes in August, Boeing aheadPARIS (Reuters) - France-based planemaker Airbus said on Friday it had sold 22 aircraft in August, bringing its year total to 222, well behind rival Boeing Co. (BA) which has booked 548. The U.S. company booked 30 new orders in August. It is being helped by its new 787 aircraft due in 2008 which is upstaging Airbus's mid-sized models and putting Airbus's five-year reign as top seller at risk. Airbus said it had taken orders for 13 single-aisle planes from its A320 series as well as for 9 wide-body A330-200 aircraft. These included eight sold to leasing companies and one to Air Mauritius.
